you inspire me to be the higher me.

he said he immersed himself in my scent 
because for him it was a reminder of the intangible
made such by decisions hastily made
and yet forever would their consequences be felt


he thanked me for that allowance and i, 
unsure of what else i could provide as someone who knew
absolutely nothing of his plight, said you are welcome. 


but welcome to what i knew not of because how i, 
someone so entirely focused on my individual,
self-righteous misfortune, 

could be capable of appreciating the seemingly
inconsequential entities that make up our daily lives - 

i did not know.


for his sake, and for the sake of my imperative need 
to develop a deeper sense of gratitude, knowing
to digress would be to insult the significance
of his ability to receive zion through concrete,
i commit myself to understanding the vast beauty
already bestowed upon me by The Most High.
